The Content

As NTC enters its 40th year of bringing energy education programs to K-12 schools throughout the country, we’re taking a trip down memory lane with our interactive Prezi timeline. Stretching from our beginnings in 1978 all the way through the present day and beyond, this interactive timeline retraces our history and looks ahead to the next 40 years.

Learn some fun facts about our journey including:

  • How NTC got its start as Small Change Original Theatre in 1978
  • NTC’s founder – a then 19-year-old theatre student at the University of Minnesota named Ward Eames
  • The artists and educators that helped NTC get off the ground
  • The utility companies that took a chance on K-12 educational outreach, long before the prevalence of CSR programs
  • The evolution of our educational offerings, from handcrafted student workbooks to interactive digital games and e-books to our very own television series
  • Incredible anecdotes detailing the excitement of a touring educational theatre company!

Our Approach

NTC set out in 1978 to educate and entertain by using live in-school theatre to forward utilities’ reputations through community outreach campaigns. A lot has changed since the days of Jimmy Carter, Space Invaders and the first mobile phones, but our mission has stayed the same: to connect organizations to K-12 students, families and communities in inspiring ways.

In honor of our 40th Anniversary, we wanted to offer an entertaining, insightful look at the path we’ve taken over the last four decades – and provide a glimpse toward the future, as we hope to continue evolving and improving over the next 40 years. We looked at our interactive Prezi timeline as a thank-you to the artists, educators, clients and partners that have made it all possible – not to mention the students that we’ve had the honor of inspiring each and every year.
