Energy Efficiency
Energy Academy is a live theatrical production that presents four hilarious sketches all about STEM concepts and energy efficiency. By watching and participating in these improvisation-based sketches, students will learn about how electricity is generated from natural resources, how electricity gets wasted every day and what we all can do to help conserve electricity and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
In the first sketch, it’s the first day of baseball spring training. Crash is the star hitter – who can’t hit the ball. Coach uses the scientific method to help Crash form a new hypothesis about hitting a baseball, and along the way they learn about how electricity is generated at a power plant.
In the second sketch, we’re at a science fair! Norma, Moe and their robot, F.R.I.E.N.D, learn all about technology and the way we use technology with our energy resources.
In the third sketch, the actors take on the personas of ranchers trying to grow enough grass to feed their sheep. In the process, they discover the power of engineering and the ways we all waste energy every day.
Lastly, Kit Kapow (and some surprise guests) host a game show called “This is Your School Now!” Through the power of math, they learn all about conserving energy in school and at home.
Students and teachers will also have access to an e-learning package that includes games, quizzes and lesson plans for the classroom to reinforce concepts from the show as well as bilingual printed materials.
The live show Energy Academy is a 30-minute event intended for K-6 audiences.
Additionally, this program comes with an extra opportunity for your student and students’ families to save energy at home by providing take-home energy kits for students in second, fifth and eighth grade that contain items to conserve electricity and water and save money on their home utility bills. Teachers who gather their students’ completed Home Energy Surveys and return them will also earn a $50 mini-grant.
