The Energy Smart program comes with a live educational event for grades K-6 called Energy Academy. Additionally, students in grades 2, 5 and 8 will each receive printed bilingual workbooks or handbooks, an e-learning package, and a take-home energy-saving kit.
Teachers are provided with access to a training webinar series and digital teacher toolkit. For those teaching grades 2, 5 or 8, they will also receive a take-home energy-saving kit.
The kits contain measures to help save energy and money at home while encouraging energy conservation throughout your New Orleans community. Kit items will include:
- One 1.5 gallon-per-minute (GPM) low-flow fixed showerhead
- One advanced power strip 5-outlet
- One 1 GPM bathroom aerator
- One self-adhesive foam weatherstrip
Participation requirements are minimal. As part of the program, we ask that each student’s family complete the Home Energy Survey. The survey form helps us track how much energy is being saved by the program overall.
All teachers who participate will be given access to the digital educational materials. In addition, 2nd, 5th and 8th grade teachers will be sent the printed educational materials and will receive the energy-savings kits at their school. We ask that participating 2nd, 5th and 8th grade teachers distribute the print materials, send home the kits with each student and collect the students’ Home Energy Surveys after their families install the kit measures. When teachers send back the surveys in the provided Energy Smart envelope, they will receive a $50 mini-grant! More info here.
